I have a 2003 Civic LX and have 81,000 mi on it. A year and a half ago the thermostat went up to H and would do so but not everyday and not all of the time. We replaced the thermostat but again about a week later it did it again. We then had the radiator fixed because apparently there was a hole in it. It was fine for about 6 months. Recently again it happened and again today. I can almost tell when it is going to happen because the car makes a "putting" noise for a few days and then the thermostat shoots up to H. I think I may need more coolant for my A/C as I have not had a cold A/C for about a year...The only thing that seems to bring the thermostat down is driving at a decent speed or on the highway. Would the coolant have anything to do with this or what may be the problem? And what would make it go away and then come back after months?
