my car is about ready for timing belt change as what the dealer would say everytime i visited them. i just want to ask if it is advisable to change the water pump, seals and external belt as well? some would say that they just want to make more money from me because it is not necessary to change the water pump as well coz it last longer. some would say that it is recommended because it will not last very long with a new belt and i'm going to spend the same amount when it will be damage after a timing belt change. and to think that they have a package deal for the whole thing ( $650 ). please enlighten me with this because i want to have the better decision than regret it later when it happens.

thank you for your time and more power ti thus very helpful website.

Hi Leo,

Since you are going to replace the timing belt, I would recommend replacing the water pump as well. Replacing it would leave you with no regrets but not doing it might make you regret if the water pump were to give way not long after you replace the timing belt and you need to do the job all over again.

There is a Chinese saying, "Since you already bought the cow, why hesitate to buy the rope to tie up the cow?" ;)
