What is the best way to test my car to determine if the battery and/or alternator need to be replaced?

Hi jennycraig0825,

For the battery, you can test its state of charge and apply a high rate discharge test.

As to the alternator, you can only test its present charging rate with the aid of a voltmeter. However it is not possible to test or know how long the alternator will last.
