Noises problem
2000 Honda Civic Automatic 68500 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
While recently driving on the highway (~65 mph) for over 50 miles, at the toll plaza while I braked I noticed a rhythmic clicking from the engine. Car was not overheating. I pulled over, opened the hood, and oil and transmission fluid levels were okay. The engine continued to click, and then the car turned off. After about 45 minutes, I turned on the car, no problem. No sound.
What is going on?

Hi asardesh,

With the information that you have provided, we are unable to understand the problem so is unable to answer you.

Where is the clicking noise coming from? Has it occurred again?
Did you have to wait 45 mins to restart?
Is the noise related to the engine, trans or interior?

In response to your questions:
The noise was from the AC Compressor.
I was told the belt tensioner, A/C Compressor, and two other components need to be replaced.

The engine is okay (according to the mechanic)
I was told to not turn on my ac system at all, not even the fan or vents.

My AC system needs to be replaced, and I was given a quote of $900.

Will a broken AC system affect engine performance?

If the compressor or idle pulley bearings are seized, it will affect the performance of the engine.
