For the past few months, I've had a problem starting the car in which I'll turn the key to start the ignition, but as soon as I let go of the key, it flips back and shuts the car off. This is especially inconvenient when I am going 85mph on the freeway and suddenly the key kicks back and turns off the engine, and all I can do is brake and steer to safety. I'm not sure whether it's something within the ignition lock cylinder itself, or just a spring or something that got loose. Does the whole thing need to be replaced or only a part? (Ignition Lock Assembly?)

Another thing I noticed about it is that it only gives me a hard time when the car is hot (i.e. left outside). But if the car is cool (at night or in the shade) I don't usually have a problem starting up. I took it in to Pep Boys to get it looked at, but they couldn't see anything without actually taking apart the steering wheel (so I don't think it has anything to do with spark plugs, ignition coil, or the starter).

Thank you to anyone who can help me solve this problem!

Hi budarc,

The problem seems to be a faulty ignition switch. There was a safety recall on the item and you should call your nearest Honda dealer formore details and if you qualify for the recall.
