My check engine light turned on and just that fast my car felt like it was running in high RPM. When it stops, i have to hit the brakes hard because it feels like its going to take off. I took it to the mechanic and he said it was the idleing sensor. I'm confused now, i dont know if the Idle Air control valve is the same thing as an Idle Speed Sensor. The mechanic said that because not enough air is gettin into it, the idle is having a hard time figuring what RPM it should be on. I have a 1999 Honda Civic 2dr Ex Auto. Trans. please email to mcrotte1410@student.palomar.edu for quick response.

Thanks!!!!

Hi Mtaylor82,

Never heard of idle speed sensor before. Idle Air Control should be the proper name.

Get a scan done and post the proper code here and we will see what we can do.

Seems the rpm is running high so how can it be too little air getting through? Should be vacumn leakage or too much air getting through. Could be due to a faulty or stuck IAC.
