How do you adjust the hood latch on a 99 honda civic lx? It won't latch all the way.

Hi rwelsome,

Thank you for the donation.

The latch is held by 3 bolts which can be moved up, down and sideways for a limited distance.

If problem occurred after any impact damages, the front panel has moved in too far and this would cause difficult closing. You would have to repair the damage first.

Likewise if the cable is stuck and not returning freely, it would not latch.

To adjust the latch, lower the hood till it is as near to the latch as possible. Visually check that the striker and latch are in sync. Mark the adjusting bolt position with liquid paper or any other suitable marker.

The upper cover has to be removed first.
Loosen the 3 holding bolts and adjust as necessary and retighten slightly. Test the sync again and if correct, tighten to spec.

Test the hood closing. You might need to perform adjustment a few times to get it right.
