1999 Honda Civic fuel filter?

i recently started having this problem that when my car gets to about 60mph it begins to jerk and is weak. when i got it looked at i was told i desperatlely needed an oil change. so i got one. after the oil change i noticed the jerking was less and it ran smoothly now it completely cuts out and turns off while i am driving and randomly does not start. when i spoke to another mechanic i was told that i needed to replace the fuel filter....could there be another problem wirh my vehice? it jerks and cuts out when i gas it...

You would check the fuel pressure to see if it is in spec. IF the filter is over 35,000 miles old, it should be done regardless. How old are the plugs?

The plugs are pretty new replaced less than a year ago thank you for your response this car has been a nightmare i also have a headlight out and the sms light is constantly on.....
