I've got a 97 Civic that is undoubtedly the best car ever made. I have beat the hell outta the exterior, but I have kept up with maintenance religiously. Anyways, I just moved to Chicago during the middle of an abnormally brutal winter. I had the car winterized before I left, and it has done great (outside of a frozen keyhole and some wiper problems). However, I noticed that when I turned the car off today, the cooling fan (I guess that's what it is...my car knowledge is lacking) wouldn't turn off...it eventually drained the battery, and for a quick fix, I unplugged the fan, got a jump, and got the home. I plugged the fan back in, and drove it around the block, and and the fan still remains on when I turn off the ignition. My dad thinks it has something to do with the solenoid switch. Having just moved, I don't have a trusted Mechanic just yet, so I need help bad. Any ideas?

First you should check your cooling fan relay, it is controlled by the PCM and if it sticks it could be telling the fan to stay on all the time.

If that isnt whats doing it you may have a bad coolant temp sensor or in rare cases a bad PCM.
