i recently took my 96 honda civic(194K) to a mechanic where i was advised to have the engine fan hard wired into the ignition as a cost effective method of cooling my vehicle. BTW, Civic is only overheating(3/4) while idling in traffic. He said the thermostat is fine. Checked the relays and waterr pump. the fans were not coming on so instead of sending me to a "high priced" automotive electrician to track down the problem, he suggest the current fix. it worked for a day and now i have the same problem. The fan does not come on. Should I....
A. replce the fuse it may have blown with one with a higher threshold.
B. undo this bandaid and shell out the bucks to have the real problem diagnosed and fixed.
C. Any suggestions appreciated.

If the fuse is blown, replace it with the SAME amperage fuse. If it blows again, the motor is most likely shorted out and needs to be replaced.

If the fuse is fine, test the fan switch on the thermostat housing.

If you do not repair your cooling fan, your engine will overheat and seize up, so you need to get it down a.s.a.p.
