My car was struck by lightning and now the battery will not hold a charge, the speedometer does not work, and the check engine light stays on. I took it to a mechanic, but he is unsure of the source of the problem. He changed the battery, but that only worked for about an hour. The car began to stall and finally stopped and refused to start. Do you think the problem may be electrical as well as a computer problem? Thanks for your response.

Hi r7walker,

What was the trouble code retrieved?

Since the battery is not being charged, you should check the alternator and charging system. The battery is not at fault but the charging system is. Check for blown fuses.
