mechanic rebuilt the engine about 18,000 miles ago, for a blown head gasket, and now the car is overheating, no heat, and he is saying I need another head gasket

I might be concerned about the quality of that mechanic and the work that was done. For instance, it does little good to simply replace the head gasket. The head must be checked for warping and cracks.

the mechanic in question is martin honda, the local honda dealer in newark de!

That may well be the case but the work was not done properly. I don't think the head was checked.
