I bought this vehicle and the owner said that it only had 61000, however I don't know if that is the real milage. Any way the vehicle seems to be in great shape other than the white smoke, it smokes most of the time starting off and changing the gears, and also accelerating. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and told him that the vehicle was smoking and that I thought the the head may be cracked. They had it checked and said it was ok but worpped. they done the following work
Headset Gasket 129.99
water pump 47.99
Timing Belt 48.99
A/C Belt 16.48
Alternator Belt 18.97
Thermostat 15.54
4 Spar Plugs 15.96
Distributor 239.99
Motor Mount 64.99
oil and filter 20.00
Anti Freeze 15.99
Machine shop work 150.00
labor 350.00
Tax 42.85
Total 1177.74

He feels like it may be a ring may be sticking since the vehicle had been setting for a while and to drive it and next oil change that he would add some type of additive that might help unstick the ring?

What do you think?

His prices are very reasonable and his plan also sounds logical and reasonable. I doubt it will fix it but theres is nothing to lose by trying. More often, especially in an overheat situation, the rings lose their ring tension. Should have been re-ringed when the head was out, but since the percieved problem was the head, there was know way of knowing. Maybe it could have been suggested before hand..but that is all acedemic at this point. Post it if work out.
