1993 Honda Civic idleing high

i am a mother of two and i just got a used car and my car is idleing high when u start it and it will not go past 4 rpms without back firing or spitting and sputtering please atleast tell me what it could be

If it's idling high it is quite possible that you have a vacuum leak. It could be as simple as a ripped vacuum hose, or as major as a leaking intake manifold gasket. Have the vehicle diagnosed. It shouldn't be too hard to find a vacuum leak (if that is the problem).
