Transmission problem
1992 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have had this car for 5 years now I asked a friend of the family if they could change my transmission fluid and filter. He told that it was not recommended since I have had it so long and the oil and filter has not been changed. He told me that it would make the transmission even worse or would make it not even work anymore.

HI there,

The transmission oil and filter should be replaced periodically, but if you are experiencing drive or slippage problems just doing a service more than likely will not solve any problems, it will not hurt they transmission to give it a service, but you should get it checked over by a transmission specialist if there are any drivabality issues present.
