I've removed the cv joint and cannot remove the axle from the cv joint to replace the cv boot. I watched a youtube how-to that shows a retaining ring/clip on the splined axle that can be removed to release the axle from the cv hub, however my cv joint has no apparent retaining clip or slot to pinch and remove it if there is one. Does it press in place like the transaxle side of the shaft. If so how do I get enough leverage to force the cv joint off the axle? Help!

Hi gwquock,

You are correct about the spring C-clip of the outer CV joint, it is pressed in, similar to the trans end.

To remove, grip the axle shaft in a vice, use a rod push at the inner most part of the CV joint and use a hammer to tap the rod to get the clip to release and push the joint out.

Some clips are stuck tight due to damage and when this occurs, there is no way of getting the CV joint off except to grind it off.

If you are only replacing the boot, removing the inner joints would allow you replace the boot.
