Electrical problem
1990 Honda Civic 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The fuse that controls the brake lights and horn keeps blowing out. I replaced the stoplight switch and checked for wires sticking out and nothing works. Everytime I put in a new fuse it blows out. I cant drive the darn thing because with no fuse I have no brake lights. What else can I do?

Hi n9erray,

If the fuse blows immediately when you install it, it should not be the brake switch but instead it should be the power supply wire circuits to it or the horn.
Try disconnecting the horn wires first. If there was any repairs, accident to any fenders etc. Check for damaged wires.
If the fuse blows only after the brakes are applied, check the brake bulbs and their wiring for shorts. Remove brake bulbs and test.

Thank you very much for your help. I will try that and let you know what happens. I doubt it's the horn because it was working properly before. All of this started happening when the distributor coil went out. That got fixed but I dont know if that problem had anything to do with the brake light/horn fuse not working properly. It was before the coil went out.

Hi n9erray,

They are on separate circuits so should have no relations. Just make sure while working you had not accidentally caused some bare wires to come into contact.
