I need to replace my timing belt--each time I have done this in the past, I have had a horrible time removing the crankshaft pulley. In removing the bolt for the pulley, the clutch slips and it cannot be removed without resorting to air wrenches. A friend told me a quick solution for this is to use a break bar socket wrench and place it on the bolt, then strap the breaker bar to the frame, then kick the engine with the starter--the revolution of the engine would loosen the bolt. Is this a wise solution?

Hi there,

i would remove the starter and lock the ring gear with a large screw driver or a pinch bar,
this other method is dangerous and serious personal injury could occur. don't do it this way.

NEVER use the power of any internaly combusted engine to remove anything--especialy the crank pully bolt!! The engine can easily shatter the socket and/or breaker bar into little flying missiles. There are many reasons for the use of air impact tools--- this is one of them. Please don't do it----
