1989 Honda Civic Slipping

Transmission holds 1t and 3rd gear fine. Slips baddly in 2nd, not as bad if shifter is in 2 instead of one of the drives. After the car has been driven several miles on interstate in hot weather it will slip in fourth if given to much gas. Fuid smells and looks good. Is it possible that a fluid and filter change could help.

Not likely. Might want to have a diagnostic done at a trans shop, it may be a bad solenoid or something to that effect.Those older Honda autos should have only Honda ATF in them.
