1989 Honda Civic KEY WONT TURN IN IGNITION

my key wont turn in the ignition and the autozone guy said it could be the tumbler how do i go about replacing that? no clue on how to work on ignitions thank you for your help

Hi stepie82,

Did you try turning the steering wheel left or right before attempting to turn the ignition ley?

To replace the key cylinder you need to have the ignition turned to ACC and then push a spring pin on the housing to release and pull the key cylinder out.

If not, you need to replace the lock assy.

We had a similar problem with our 1990 Civic and ended up having the lock cyclinder and key replaced
