I have a 87 civic that had a 86 crx 1.5 liter engine swapped into it. The car drives fine sometimes, but other times it will over rev. If im driving and let off the pedal it will maintain the same speed if not increasing it. When I put in the clutch or put it in neutral the RPMs will increase up to 6,000ish or higher. I end up having to shut it off quickly to get it to stop. What do i do?

Hi dotaken,

You have a problem with the accelerator cable. Check if it is stiff and will not return.

Check if the throttle cable end dust cover rubber has detached and is getting stuck at the throttle pulley.

If it is carb version, check if the secondary throttle valve is stuck.

If the air filter is bad and has pieces of debris in the throttle body, it would not allow the throttle valve to close.
