We are trying to determine if the timing belt needs to be replaced, and are having a hard time seeing the marks on the pully. Also not sure how to adjust, or just replace. It will not go over 40 before it starts shakeing the wheel. I do not want the belt to break, so would like any help I can get. The book said that there were color marks, but can not see them. Please help!!! Honda girl

Hi HondaGirl,

The marks on the timing belt tends to wear off over period of time and the normal way of checking if it requires replacement is to visually inspect the belt condition. If it looks shiny, cracked and old, time for replacement.

The pulley timing marks tends to get dirty so a toothbrush with some soapy water would be able to get them clean and easy to see.

Not going over 40 should not be anything to do with the timing belt unless it has skipped a tooth.

I would suggest checking the spark plugs and wires, fuel filter.
