92 Accord EX 2.2, 189,000 miles. On cold mornings the tacometer jumps around while accelerating. I can feel the engine surging slightly when this happens. Could it be a ignition problem. What component sends the signal to the tac? Thanks

If the engine is surging the tach should jump accordingly. The surging is generally related to a vacuum leak or air in the cooling system. Even a lack of coolant can cause this.

When the coil secondary winding collapses the control module off signal will go to the Tachometer as an indication of engine speed RPM.
