Stiff clutch in 2001 Honda Accord LX Coupe - 61,000 miles

Hello All

The clutch in my Accord is very stiff to depress. It shifts into forward gears ok without grinding, but the reverse gear will grind if I dont fully depress the clutch pedal.

The fluid level in the master cylinder was completely low, and the rubber gasket was sucked in. I did add fluid, and the clutch does seem "slightly" easier.

I am bringing it in to the mechanic today to have them test drive it.

My question are

1. Does it sound like the clutch needs to be rebuilt (the searches I looked at on the board point to it  )
2. How much will this cost. The garage is a local one and they charge $49 an hour.
3. Should they use geniune honda parts, or can they use auto store parts.

4. Could just bleeding the clutch and replacing the new fluid help for now?

5. Is this something that needs to be fixed NOW! - Will it cause serious damage if I drive it?

6. What other things should I have them look for, or I should be aware of as the customer.

Thanks

It will probably need a master and slave cylinder. About $125.00 worth of parts. Good luck

Brought the Accord into the mechanic yesterday. He took it for a test ride and said that the clutch appeared to be fine. That it was in fine working condition. He did agree that the clutch was VERY stiff.
He looked around and was able to see it leaking out of what he called the sleeve cylinder - that directly attaches to the transmission.

He gave me a quote of 90$ parts and 1/2 hour labor to install and bleed the clutch. Does that sound good? I thought it did.

I have an appointment at 1:30 for him to do it today.

When I asked him if it would make the clutch easier to push in, he said it should. (But he didn't say it very convincingly?)

So do you think it will help the stiff clutch?

Thanks

If the slave unit was binding intyernally, the clutch might be a bit stiffer. Binding acn be caused by a dry transmission shaft and binding the throwout bearing--rare ocassion but I have seen it happen.
