Engine turns off then back on when driving

I recently acquired a 1999 honda accord LX with 166,000 miles. When I drive either on the freeway or street the engine would cease. The dash gauges turn off (speedo and tach goes to "0" ) I have no engine power and steering. However the radio, A/C and lights are still working. After a few seconds the dash lights flicker and engine turns back and engine power restored in the car. This would happens often. How can I fix this problem. Please help.
