Okay i have a 97 honda accord, 5spd, 2.2L with 80K. My problem suggests a bad alternator, but i had it checked today at advanced auto and they said it was working properly. Symptoms of the problem include lack of power. For instance when i roll down my power windows at night i can see that my headlights and interior lights dim. This also occurs when i switch the air conditioning on. Upon idle my car feels like its about to die on me, especially when the air is on. Also, I noticed a few weeks ago that my engine was struggling to crank and it seemed that each day i started it the problem got worse until now it wont start at all. Please give me some suggesions.

Get the battery capacity tested-if battery okay then check the alternator it might not be putting out-to do this read the voltage before you start the car-record it , now start the car -hit the lights if the reading is atleast 1.5 volts over the reading before you start the car -the alternator is doing its job.

Ras is right on the alternator but I might add that places that test alternators don't seem to hit on the chance that the alternator can be doing its job of charging but may not know when to turn off. They over charge the battery and that is just as bad as not charging at all.
