Alternator?

I own a 2000 Honda Accord EX (2 door, V6), 90000 milles. I recently replaced an alternator (non-Honda) and a battery (also non-Honda). All of a sudden my battery light came on as well as my brake light and all the lights that point to open doors. I called the dealer and was told that Accords are known to not be compatible with alternators that are not made by Honda. Is it the alternator or could it be something else?

Yeah that sound like something a dealer employee would say. Having said that there are alternaters and starters that are bad right off the shelf. It sounds like you may have one.

And no, you don't have to get a honda alternater.

Have the same car in my fleet and the alternator did that same thing but it was a Honda alternator. I have since put in a replacement alternator. Got it through NAPA and the manufacturer is Dixie. They are big in testing equipment for reman of alternator and reman them themselves. It has been good.

Iirc, since i'm home, this alternator is actually a gm delco design. Which is probably why they go bad a lot :-)

as for using a honda reman. That would be my 1st choice. If you didn't want to go with honda I would suggest a high quality aftermarket reman like, bosch or denso. Cheap remans are that CHEAP.
