I have a recently purchased Accord LX 1994, 4cyl 132, automatic, 4 door, 150 k miles. I guess I have a project as I don't know the history of the car.
It occasionally starts poorly, the main problem is that upon acceleration it stutters, pops once in a while, then takes off. Once the rpms are above 3000 it runs very strong. At cruising speeds i can feel it miss and it seems like it's loading up. If i stomp on the accelerator at 40 it's almost the same as from a dead stop. If I downshift to get the rpms up it will take off fine. It idles perfectly
I recently replace the fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotor. The plug wires look brand new but they are aftermarket. Fuel filter pressure reads 30psi.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,

Roy

Roy - when you pulled the plugs out, were they all the same in color on the tips. Was one or two sooty with some carbon build up? What you describe could be an injector that is clogged or a plug wire that is failing.

The plugs all looked great clean with no soot, and I actually changed out the plug wires today with no effect.
It still hesitates upon acceleration. If I baby it real lightly on acceleration I can get it to go smoothly. I've searched and sprayed for vacuum leaks but no luck. any other ideas? timing?

Thanks again,

Roy

Can't hurt to check the timing. Another thing that comes to mind in reading what you have said is to take a look at the EGR valve. Pull it off and clean it.
