My Accord is leaking Trans Fluid very fast. The dealer told me "the Diff Bearing is worn out, and the fluid passes the Bearings and just leaked." A total transimission rebuild is needed. Is this a sensible explanation? The Axle Seals were changed by the same dealer two months ago. Thanks!

Hi historica,

Thank you for the donation.

Yes, the explanation is logical. When the differential bearings are worn, it would cause the CV joint to have excessive side play and this would result in the oil leaks.

The oil seal replaced 2 months ago could be the initial diagnosis and but during that time, they should have noted the excessive side play of the CV shaft.

Is a total transmission rebuild the only option now?

To replace the differential bearings, the transmission has to be disassembled so it can be considered a rebuilt job.
