I purchased my 2002 Accord v6 last year with 86,000 miles and have put approx 23,000 miles/highway on it within less than a year. I have noticed that the car shifts slightly slower when going from 3rd to 4th. The car doesn’t really jerk when shifting, just seems to shift a little slower than previous cars I have driven. Most recently, I have had an issue with the idle. Leaving work the other day, a day wherein the wind chill was -25 F, I started my car and put it into reverse to back out of my space. I let my foot off the break and my car flew backwards, tires screeching as if I was flooring it. I quickly slammed the break, threw in in park and noticed my rpm’s were redlined. I quickly shut the car off and composed myself (due to the fact that I came inches from smashing into the car behind me, along with its owner) I was figuring that there was snow/ice freezing my gas pedal and it was causing it to get stuck. I pumped my pedal and started the car again and experienced the same problem. I sat and waited for about 5 minutes and let the car warm up and directed the heaters to the floor. Eventually the rpm’s went back to normal and the car was fine (except for it running louder than usual). This has happened about three times in the last two days. I have the feeling that it’s due to the frigid temperatures but I have read on many sites that this year/model has significant transmission problems and im worried that may be what is causing these issues. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi dmaz64,

The trans should not be causing the problem and the possible reason is the throttle is stuck due to dirt and cold conditions. I would suggest cleaning the throttle body and checking the throttle linkages.
