I had my radiator changed out about 2 months ago due to it leaking. About 2 weeks ago, my car started over-heating. Pulled off the road, realized there wasn't any water in the radiator nor other holding tank. Filled those thinking my repairman did not but of course overheated again a week later. Water was fine in holding tank but radiator was empty. Decided it was the temperature gauge, changed that, still overheated. Presently, the temperature gauge is out of the car, water is in all appropriate locations and I haven't overheated, yet. Was told it could be a head gasket, radiator cap, or wear on the hoses (which timing belt and all associated was changed out in 07). Any suggestions, leads will be appreciated. Please excuse my terminology as I do not know much about cars. I may have a leak too, I'm guessing.

Hi danadane26,

There is a possibility air was not bled from the system causing the initial problem.

I would suggest bleeding the system and retest again.

Top up the radiator coolant. Turn heater on to maximum and run engine with radiator cap open. When level drops, top up. when level does not drop anymore, close radiator cap and bleeding is done. Monitor situation for a few tims of heating up and cooling down and recheck coolant level. If radiator is low on coolant and recovery tank is full, you have a gasket problem.
