The CV joint on my buddies car is going out. should he replace right away or can he wait? What happens if it goes out when he's driving down the road?

Hi cefrancis1,

What do you mean by going out?

If there are crocking noises during turning, it is due to CV joints lack of lubrication. If the problem had been arrested earlier, a bellow change with topping up of lubricants would solve the problem.

It is not easy fot the CV joint to give way completely but when it does, you might be stranded in the middle of nowhere.
