1999 Honda Accord

I HAVE A 99 HONDA ACCORD. I PUT A NEW STARTER IN AND AS I GOT BACK IT TO THE CAR TO START IT I NOTICED THE NEEDLE ON JUST THE MPH DIAL WAS POINTING STRAIGHT DOWN. THE OTHER GAUGES WERE WORKING CORRECTLY. WHAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS?

Hi CWILCOX,

Check the speed sensor wire connector. During replacement of the starter you could have dislodged the connector. Speed sensor is located on trans axle housing below the thermostat housing.

WOULD THAT CAUSE ONLY ONE GAUGE TO GO WRONG?

The speed sensor would cause only the speedometer and odometer to fail.

Other gauges would not be affected.
