my honda accord 99 with 105000 miles runs great, except most of the time it will not start unless I give it some gas. After that it idles fine runs great. Just a problem with it starting. New Air filter, not leaks in hoses that I can see..... bad gas? fuel injectors?
Help please!

change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure, I will send you info on how to check pressure, your fuel pressure regulator could be faulty

your throttle position sensor may have something to do with this but we will leave that for last, let me know your findings after completion of the tasks I gave you.

I was going to try the fuel regulator thing you said in a couple days when I had time. Another symptom came up that may be part of it.
I hear a rattling under the car that sounds just like a heat shield on a cat convertor. I took the heat shield off and it sounds like the rattling is inside the cat convert. When I gave it gas to get it to start up (old problem) lots of smoke came out of the muffler.

Could a bad CAT convert. cause car not to start unless I give it gas?

Thanks.

When I solve this I will send another donation

I took the catalytic convertor off and the car started right up. I put the new cat conv. Magnaflow on and it won't start again. I thought there may be a block lower or I screwed up the CAT CONV install somehow.. only 6 bolts. so I took it off and tried starting it without the Cat Conv connected and still won't start.

Sounds like a flooded engine. It tries to turn over but just sputters.

Any thoughts?

If it is flooded do I just wait... I have waited a couple hours and nothing changed?

could the O2 sensors cause this? no CHeck engine light on

check that fuel pressure, the throttle positio sensor may be contributing to this also, but check that pressure first
