1999 Honda Accord Intermittent starting

My 1999 accord would not start immediately, the engine would turn over the radio came on but I did not get the dash lights like the check engine, the odometer all the lights that normally come on when turn the key. After playing around turning the ket off and on I heard a click, sounded like under the dashboard or on the firewall, the lights came on and the car started. Just went outside and car started no problems. I do not want my wife stranded so I am hoping you can help me solve this mystery.....mayflyron
