On my Accord the dashboard light for the Brakes goes on, sometimes after a heavy rain, and the left rear brake light is out. Usually within a day the light goes off and my brake light is working again. Yesterday I couldn't start the car - no warning lights were on. it cranked but didn't catch. I brought it to a mechanics and at first it wouldn't start, then after sitting an hour it did. But the brake light warning came on, and the brake light was out. Until I got home and the warning light went off and the brake light went back on. This morning, the brake light warning came on, and the check engine light started blinking.

Any ideas?

Hi rkwriter,

Thank you for the donation.

The brake failure indicator light would show when one of the brake bulb is not functioning. Since problem is intermittent, the usual cause is a bad contact with one of the brake bulbs.

Remove the brake bulbs and reinstall and look out for contaminations such as rust or oxidation.

As to engine not starting, it could be due to various reasons and when it happened, you need to verify if it is ignition, fuel or electrical.

Here is a link for you which should be helpful for you to diagnose what is missing and is good for general knowledge.
