1998 Honda Accord V-6 Coupe (automatic) with 110,000 miles.

2 issues.

1. The car will not start after sitting in the sun during the heat of the day (Southern California). The starter turns over but the engine will not engage. After the temperature drops and the car cools down the engine fires right up with no hesitation.

2. Ocassionally while driving (anywhere from at rest to highway speeds) the car just shuts off. Typically after waiting for 10-15 minutes the car fires right up with no hesitation.

I had the ignition switch replaced under recall 2 years ago.

My mechanic said it has something to do with having too many keys on my keychain but I removed all but the car key and the problems continue.

The number of keys on the chain, the amount of weight in the car, etc are not the cause. I would consider a possible fuel pressure regulator. BUT during those times when the car does not start you need to diagnose the problem. You need to check if spark is present. Pull off a plug wire and varify that spark is being sent to the plugs. Good strong blue spark. Check to ensure that gas is being fed to the cylinders. Basic stuff but it will lead you down the right path.
