Have everything disconnected and the axle came out a little way and then no more. Is there a clip in the tranny or some kind of retainer that has to be removed? I have used moderate force to pull the axle out but am worried that I will damage something.

Hi bruce9432,

Thank you for the donation.

There is a spring clip for holding the inner shift in position and you need to use a crowbar or large screwdriver to pry the shaft outwards. Take care not to damage the oil seal.

After prying the clip loose, the shaft should come out rather easily.

Note : The outer joint have to be disconnected first.
