1998 Honda Accord 6 cyl Automatic 160,00 miles

My Accord was recently "totaled" by the insurance co. Prior to the accident, it was discovered we needed a new transmission. Then my daughter rear-ended an SUV and crunched the front end. The hood cannot be opened, and when you close or open the drivers-side door there is a pop. The insurance has offered us $6000.00. We are happy with the settlement, but our dilemma is whether to buy back the car and have the repairs made (they will cost about 5,000.) Any thoughts. Is it worth it or should we put the money toward a new "used car" for my college-aged daughter.

To be honest (if it was my daughter's car) I would put the money toward something newer. Some of the new imports can be purchased for a little more and they are 0% financing and a great warranty. If you would rather say with something used, there are a lot for sale.

My reasoning is the if the door isn't opening, the front end damage is extensive. When repaired, you have the strut towers, frame, and undergarrage that sounds like it will need fixed, plus the trans and other things that (I would bet) are being missed. Usually when these repairs are made, there is tire wear problems, steering problems...

If you get a used car, make sure to get a car fax to insure the vehicle wasn't in an accident.

Also, you may want to look up your vehicle's value. Is it worth fixing? Go to kbb.com for used car values.

Let me know if you have other questions.
