My Accord is getting horrible gas mileage, sometimes as poor as 12mpg in town! What is causing such a drastic decrease in gas milieage? It does have a tick in the engine. I put in new plugs and a new coil recently, and that made no difference. Tires and pressure are good, as is the suspension. I have heard this year of Honda falls in a date range of Hondas that have issues with their timing chains. Is this true, and if so, would this effect the milieage? The car's performance has decreased slightly, but it still has good power.

Another question - I recently had the collar(?) on the exhaust system replaced, and since then there is a considerable pinging (like super hot metal) coming from under the car after I shut it off. Is this normal?

I thank you much for your help.

Hi there,

you should start by double checking all the tune parameters, also check for any fault codes, the light may not be on but there still be a cod logged. Have the O2 sensor checked if faulty can induce a rich mixture. As for the noise, exhaust temps are extremely high and the noise you here is just probably the light tin work cooling quicker than that heavy exhaust, if id doubt ask a mechanic to inspect as here it is near impossible to know what is going on under the car, just somethings you need to see first hand.
