Guys,

Had a question on a code for a "restricted input airflow to the EGR valve" on my Honda Accord. Before shelling out $200 for a new valve, I removed the old valve and cleaned it out with some electrical cleaner and also took some compressed air (at a reasonable pressure) and applied it to the valve to dry it back out and also applied some air to the passages in the intake - where the valve bolts to the engine.

After all this, I'm still getting a MIL code for restricted airflow - with as many miles on the car as I have and the current EGR valve is the original OEM valve - how can I tell if I need to change the valve or simply remove the intake and try cleaning out the passages from the engine side? Thanks in advance.

New or old EGR, you need to clear the passage because if it is clogged, a new one would not help but maybe delay the light coming on.

Clean it out and if the problem don't come back, you save yourself $200.

Not necessary to remove intake manifolds, just use a strong flexible wire to push through and use compressed air to clear out. However the exhaust is recommended to be removed to prevent the cleared carbon deposits to get to the catalytic converter.
