1995 Honda Accord 4 cyl Automatic 170000 miles

I was driving at 75 mpgs on the interstate and the engine shut off. The car cranks but will not start. I have been told that it is probably the timing belt, and in that case since i was going so fast it probably burnt out all of the valves. If it is the distributor,which i recently found out existed, would the same dammage occur to the valves?
