this morning on my way to work we started smelling burnt oil, well after pulling over we noticed that smoke was coming out of the engine. after lifting up the hood we saw that the smoke was coming from the pulleys on the far right side (say if u were looking under the hood) . i turned the car back on and shifted into gear in turn which made the pulleys begin to shake and smoke. this is an old car which has been through a lot but still runs good and has not needed major work done. also for the past two days the battery has also been dying out (brand new battery) plz tell me what this all means and what possibly needs fixing.

Hi darlene06,

The pulley is bad, you need to get it replaced and the battery would be ok. Dont wait, if it goes really bad, it could cause a lot of damage.

The pulley damper has detached itself so the alternator and AC would not be working properly.
