1992 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 156000 miles

I was told by a mechanic that i have a slow leak in my engine. THere is no liquid leaking in my driveway since i have had the car (about 5 days) but he was able to show me where this leak was in the engine. He mentioned that it was not anything i needed to get fixed now but when i did i would need to fix the Valve cover gasket the cam seal and the distributor seal. He also mentioned that if i got that work done i should replace the timing belt becasue it would not be any additional labor becasue to do the previous they have to take the timing belt off anyway. My question is ball park what would repairs like that cost? And how soon should i get that type of work done if the leaks are not prevalent?

Hi there, all parts will be around $80. and approx 3.5 Hrs labour, (check your local labour rate) if the oil leak is getting onto the timing belt, this should be done sooner rather than later.

Thank you for your help. The ball park figure i got was probaly right under 500 total. Does this seem fair? How would you know if the leak is getting to the timing belt?

you need to take off the top timing belt cover, this will show you the belt and cam gear, any oil will be evident here, it should be dry, as for price, that is about the mark, my price is just an estimate, price can vary a bit depending on supplier off parts and local labour rates.

The top timing cover fits over the cam gear.
