I am having issues with the steering on my 92 Honda Accord. For the most part it is difficult to turn the wheel in both directions. Sometimes, it feels like something will release and the steering will become easy. The power steering pump is not whinning very bad and the fluid reservoir is full. Is this a pump issue or could this be something else?

Hi ojallen,

There 2 possibilities for the problem.
1. Faulty pump. Internal wear of the pump resulting in pressure loss. To test this, when steering is heavy, try revving up the engine, if the steering feel changes, then the pump is bad.
2. Valve body clogged or direction change pin is stuck. You need to remove the valve body at bottom of steering rack to check if the pin is moving. Quite often water entry has jammed up the rack bearings.
