Electrical problem
1991 Honda Accord 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 120k miles

91 Accord LX 2 dr 4 cyl just put new battery with 5oo cold cranking amps-NO Start! Owner said car has had perpetual problems holding a charge and starting! About 3mo ago Owner charged the 1 and half yr old Die hard battery overnight and car ran for 7 days and then died! Auto Zone declared Die hard battery was dead. I'm very non-mechanically inclined! Vehicle has been parked on a incline a while and only been running every 3-5 months. Would I just fare better having it towed to a Honda Dealership?? VERY LIMITED FUNDS. Can I haul this car with a logging chain some 80 miles to dealer? HELP

Hi Nuwwine4u,

If the vehicle is not being driven often enough, the battery should be disconnected to make it last longer.

However if there is a drainage, you need to test what is causing it and this can be done by disconnecting the battery negative terminal connecting an ammeter between the terminal and cable. Any drainage of more than 0.08 amp is not good.

Start by pulling the main fuses to narrow down the circuit. The fuse that causes the current draw to drop would be the one to check.

Check if the brake lights are on when battery is connected. This is often the cause.
