Transmission problem
1991 Honda Accord Automatic 200000 miles

The automatic gear shifter ( between the seats) has to be FORCED out of park position..After that it shifts smoothly to all other positions ( Reverse, Drive etc...) I am not smart about cars so do not know if I explained this well enough. thank you :)

Quite often the problem is caused by the shifter cable. If you had done any repairs to the steering box or transmission, the most common fault is while removing or installing, the shift lever at transmission end has been bent out of position.

If no repairs had been carried out, the cable is bad and to resolve the problem, you would have to replace the cable. Check the alignment of the lever first.
