i was told that the electrical part on my ignition switch was bad ,how do i check to see if that is true.

Hi j_elogan,
There are a few connections at rear of ignition switch which you can check for continuity and if any of the soldered points are melted, they are signs of a bad ignition switch.
You can start engine but releasing of key will kill engine with no dash lights showing = bad ignition switch.
