I took this car in to have the windsheild replaced, I picked it up, and drow about 6 blocks, and the transmission was suddenly slipping at 40mph. I dropped it down to 3rd, and no problem. I went to the nearest auro parts store I knew of, and checked my tranny fluid level, it seemed ok. I wnet to leave the lot and found I had no reverse either.

Is there anything that would explain this car suddenly going bad from the time I dropped it off, and picked it up. I had no problems at all that morning, and it was a 30 mile drive to the glass shop.

thank you,

Hi Bob,

Too bad, the trans has failed due to old age and it has nothing to do with the repairs carried out.

The reverse and 4th speed share the same clutch and the clutch is leaking internally causing the reverse to fail and the 4th to slip. Once the clutch fails completely, the 4th speed would fail too.
