My 1983 Honda Accord starts fine but dies immediately. If i rev the engine above 2500 rpm its stays on. After about a minute or so I can release the throttle and the car will stay on. Once the car is warm the idle is erratic it will fluctuate from about 1000 to 1500 rpm, every now and then it wants to die at idle so I have to push the accelerator down to raise the rpm so it wont stall. I rebuilt the carburetor. I think there is a vacuum leak but I cant be sure.

You might consider taking a look at the intake manifold and the intake manifold gasket. A smoke test will tell you whether there is a problem or leak. That is a good place to start. It seems to fit the problems you mention.

Thank you for the advice, it was a vacuum leak. the problem turned out be me forgetting to put a small round rubber gasket on the carburetor spacer. It prevented the carb from sealing properly.
